I was on my way to the Isle of Skye and the thought came to mind as I was travelling along this road through Glen Shiel that the conditions were all coming together for a nice image of a vehicle's lights defining the route through the mountains.  

I found a turn off that led up above the road just before this bend and I knew I had the composition so I waited...and waited!

There's not that much traffic along the road at this time of night.  Every time I heard a vehicle approach I'd open the shutter and wait.  My exposure time was between 30 seconds and a minute, so it was all bit of a guessing game.

This image was actually my final attempt from about a 15 minute period where I'd either mistime the shot and the trails would be incomplete, or the exposure would be wrong.  I was finally forced to stop by a rain shower which even with the use of an umbrella meant I couldn't keep the lens clear.

Even if I'd been able to shoot for longer I don't think I could have improved on this final version.

Glen Shiel Light Trails is printed using Lucia Pro pigment inks and Hahnemühle Photo rag 308gsm fine art paper, allowing beautiful tonal reproduction and having museum quality archival properties. There will be only 25 examples each of limited edition prints.  Each will be numbered & signed.
